Soxs

Katherine’s cat

There once was an adventurous cat
who learnt how to swim just like that.
He fell in the deep end right next to the tap.
His brother, sat watching, said what a sap.

As Sox swam to the island of bubbles,
which looked like the end of his troubles.
He thought, I could swim the Channel,
if I could only let go of this flannel.

But his swimming days are now done
And he’s banned from the bathroom and fun .
He’s going on a journey but not yet.
He must ask his brother. What’s a vet ?

Between two Nowheres

I'm having a problem with home
I don't know when I'm there.
Too many countries,too many towns
to feel as if I've settled down.
Can you have that home feeling anywhere?

When you move around like me
you get used to coffee, not tea
or tea no milk but with lemon.
It hides the fact you've moved on.
Your expectations are at a different stage

You go back and all feels strange,
they've not moved, but you have changed.
You used to know it so well,
part of home was just that smell.
Now garlic smells normal, boiled cabbage just smells awful.

But here is not home too,
even though the strange is not new.
It's just the place where you live,
not home, but with good feelings to give.
Like the park where you walk the dog it's green and smells of rain.

I fit in nowhere, but does it matter?
As the stock of memories gets fatter and fatter.
To be a nobody anywhere is easier than it seems.
But to be between two nowheres is a life full of extremes.

Ashby-de-la-Zouch Castle

This is the most important building in the town where I was born. Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire.

I'd like to tell you a story,

the story of my life.

It's not a pretty story and it

mustn't come out all trite.

I was born, well yes you know that

a long, long time ago.

When life had a different pattern and

you knew what you should know.
